DVD Review - Savage Planet

Savage PlanetWe received this one some time ago.  I guess they were hoping to build some positive buzz about the impending release.  Sad to say it won't be so, at least from our point of view.

This has to be one of the most boring movies I've seen that calls itself "scary."

The acting was lame, the special effects terrible and the movie prolonged.  I'd have rather had my wisdom teeth pulled than sit through this movie.

Don't get me wrong, I think there was the potential for a good movie.  The story was somewhat original, but in the end the movie sucked.

It is about a team of explorers who set out to find a new "earth" because we've apparently almost used up all of the one we have.

A company has developed some technology that teleports you instantly to any location there's a "receiver".  It is here that you realize this movie is flawed - they don't really explain how the receiver ends up in the location you hope to go to.

Of course there are some problems in the transmission so team members are lost, and when they do arrive they find out there is "something" else living on this planet.

I was prepared for some ghoulish terror we've never seen before.  But do you know what it is? Bears.

Ya - bears.  Big one's.  I don't know about you, but bears are not that terrifying to me.

Anyways, they find there's some special compound on this planet that they can use to save our earth and there's some big interpersonal battle about taking this goo back to earth.

All in all, stupid decisions are made by the "explorers" as you'd expect.  You know the type - just like in a slasher movie when you KNOW the slasher is outside, and you'd think the characters would too, yet they venture outside alone.

My recommendation?   If you have a lot of alcohol and want to watch a good drinking movie - one where you point out flaws in the story and drink - then this is your movie.  But you are looking for something decent to watch, stay away from it.
