DVD Review - Nightmare Detective

I got this DVD recently and I have to say I was impressed. Not only did I learn something about my dvd player (more on that later) but I also learned to appreciate Asian horror movies.

First the DVD player.  I feel like such an idiot, but I watched the first 15 minutes of this movie reading subtitles.   I then remembered that I had a setup screen where, lo and behold, there was an English soundtrack! 

Once I got over my brainfart I got right into this movie.  For once I found an original horror movie.  Not a remake and not a regurgitation of something else.

To be fair, there are some remakes, such as the recent remake of Halloween;, that I did enjoy.  But these days most horrors are more about gore than truly scaring you.

That's why I was pleasantly surprised by this movie.  Granted there is some blood and guts, but they aren't overpowering and actually do help the movie.

And the imagery generated in the movie is impressive.  You see, the movie is about a guy who can get you to commit suicide in your dreams and, as we all know, what happens in the dreamworld can happen in reality.  So when his victims committed suicide in their dreams he was actually able to make them do so in real life.

Enter a detective who wants to stop this person.  She enlists the help of another who can also enter dreams.
