DVD Review - Killer Snakes
I received this DVD a little while ago called "Killer Snakes" and watched it when I got it but have been pondering how to write this review.
Not because the movie was bad, because it wasn't, but because I find it hard to put into words how I felt about the movie.
To be honest, it's kinda creepy.
The movie is about a a meek young man who lives near a haven for reptiles and, upon discovering a wounded snake one night, discovers that he has a unique psychic bond with them.
The movie kind of reminds me of the movie "Willard" where Crispin Glover seems to have a connection to rats.
Anyways, in Killer Snakes, the lead character develops a connection with snakes as I said above. As time goes on we also learn that he is somewhat troubled and that others take advantage of him.
As one would expect he uses his newfound ability to communicate with snakes (and later, other reptiles) to help him take some revenge on those who cross him.
Unfortunately, as time goes on, we learn that his love interest (who he's never really expressed himself too) becomes a prostitute and in a twist, he kills her with the snakes as a way of saving her.
The thing I liked about this movie was the lead character really seemed to take on the role - he had a couple little afflictions (Such as biting his nails) which seemed to help you realize just how screwed up he really is.
There's also seems to be a notion running through the film that it is the environment which is screwing up all these people, and perhaps that is why he became a murderer. Or maybe I'm just seeing too much into the movie.
Anyways, if you like 70's asian subtitled movies, or snakes, or both, check it out. You can buy it on Amazon or maybe even find it at your local video store.
If you are still unsure, why not check out this teaser below:
