SharingHope.TV Provides a Place for People to Share Cancer Stories
Feb 28th, 2008 - The American Cancer Society is launching a new Web community that will help connect cancer survivors, their friends and family members through the sharing of user-generated videos, photos, music and artwork. SharingHope.tv allows users to create an account and upload video, audio, photos and artwork in order to tell their stories of cancer in ways that work best for them. Visitors to the site can view the content, share what they like with others, or find hope and inspiration for their own fight against cancer.
Cancer survivors and their loved ones are already avid users of online community Web sites, and with SharingHope.tv, the American Cancer Society hopes to engage new and existing users of online media. "Many people share their stories of cancer on Web sites like You Tube, Flickr, and personal blogs. Now they have a chance to come together in a single online community, with an organization and an audience that really cares about cancer," said David Neff, American Cancer Society High Plains Division director of web and interactive strategy.
The new video community is innovative for a non-profit organization because it relies almost completely on people outside of the organization to create its content. "This site is not about the American Cancer Society - it's about the people cancer affects. We are providing a forum for people to share their stories, their heartbreaks, their triumphs and joys," Neff said.
For individuals who have never uploaded a video, SharingHope.tv
walks them through the steps with its own user-friendly instructional
videos. The online community has other unique features, like free
background music for videos, created by independent artists. "No one
knows more about cancer than the people living with it. We want to make
it easy and even fun for that knowledge to be shared." Neff said.
SharingHope.tv can be found at www.sharinghope.tv.

Wacky Archives has an awesome tutorial on how to make a "Do-It-Yourself" ghost for your yard or haunted attraction. As you can see, from a distance it has quite an effect. All you need is some maleable wire, such as chicken wire. then you bend and form it into the shape of a figure. As you can see, this one looks a little sombre, as if it is praying, but you can make pretty much any shape you want. All that limits you is your creativity.
More pictures after the jump.

I have to admit, when this email crossed my desk and I saw the title I thought "great, another lame so-called horror movie.I mean - "Midnight Meat Train"? c'mon.
But wait, you have to watch the trailer. It looks pretty cool.
Not only that but it stars a couple of my favorites - Brad Cooper (formerly of Alias, now has a recurring role in Nip/Tuck) and Brooke Shields.
Oh yeah, did I mention it's also based on a Clive Barker short story? That alone should put a little ice in your blood.
The story seems to follow a photographer (Cooper) who accidentally captures a murder on a subway on film.
Of course (it seems) the police don't believe him, so Cooper takes it upon himself to catch the murder.
I'm not going to say much more except watch the trailer (after the jump). Be sure to watch to the end!
We received this one some time ago. I guess they were hoping to build some positive buzz about the impending release. Sad to say it won't be so, at least from our point of view. This has to be one of the most boring movies I've seen that calls itself "scary."
The acting was lame, the special effects terrible and the movie prolonged. I'd have rather had my wisdom teeth pulled than sit through this movie.
Don't get me wrong, I think there was the potential for a good movie. The story was somewhat original, but in the end the movie sucked.
It is about a team of explorers who set out to find a new "earth" because we've apparently almost used up all of the one we have.
A company has developed some technology that teleports you instantly to any location there's a "receiver". It is here that you realize this movie is flawed - they don't really explain how the receiver ends up in the location you hope to go to.
Of course there are some problems in the transmission so team members are lost, and when they do arrive they find out there is "something" else living on this planet.
I was prepared for some ghoulish terror we've never seen before. But do you know what it is? Bears.
If you are looking for something to do on the 25th, there may still be tickets available for the 10th anniversary Swinging Wake. From the website:"Attendees at our Swinging Wake will have a rare opportunity to hear stories directly from some of the famed imagineers who originally worked with Walt Disney and created the Haunted Mansion - in a personal setting with amazing food and wonderful people. This is truly a rare opportunity for fans of Disneyland and Disney history."
Participants to this exclusive event on February 25, 2008 will be treated to the following eerie extravaganza:
- Entry to Disneyland Park at 6:00 p.m. with no additional ticket needed (discounted full-day passes are available)
- An exclusive, attendees-only dinner and program at New Orleans Square's inimitable Blue Bayou Restaurant at 7:00 p.m., located inside the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction.
Apparently Juno star Ellen Page lives in a haunted whorehouse in Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada. She reports that things have gone missing and more. She recently talked about it on Late Night with David Letterman. Check it out:
Now I have to admit that I used to be pretty creative when it came to Halloween but I've found that as I get older it does get a little harder to come up with creative ideas.
Lately I've found myself looking through websites trying to come up with ideas. That's when I came across Halloween Adventure. It is a website devoted to Halloween costumes, accessories, and party supplies for adults, kids, and even pets!
Looking for great adult Halloween costumes? or how about some sexy costumes? Even their children's costumes look great.
I think my favorite adult costume is the Zombie costume and the price sure looks good compared to what you can get elsewhere. There's even a cool Pirates of the Caribbean Davey Jones costume for kids.
I have to say that upon browsing through this site I am impressed. there are TONS of costumes to choose from and the prices are great.
I think this year I may have to get a Halloween costume from this website :)
I got this DVD recently and I have to say I was impressed. Not only did I learn something about my dvd player (more on that later) but I also learned to appreciate Asian horror movies.First the DVD player. I feel like such an idiot, but I watched the first 15 minutes of this movie reading subtitles. I then remembered that I had a setup screen where, lo and behold, there was an English soundtrack!
Once I got over my brainfart I got right into this movie. For once I found an original horror movie. Not a remake and not a regurgitation of something else.
To be fair, there are some remakes, such as the recent remake of Halloween;, that I did enjoy. But these days most horrors are more about gore than truly scaring you.
That's why I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. Granted there is some blood and guts, but they aren't overpowering and actually do help the movie.
And the imagery generated in the movie is impressive. You see, the movie is about a guy who can get you to commit suicide in your dreams and, as we all know, what happens in the dreamworld can happen in reality. So when his victims committed suicide in their dreams he was actually able to make them do so in real life.
Enter a detective who wants to stop this person. She enlists the help of another who can also enter dreams.
Dvice has an interesting article for aspiring ghost hunters. In it they list the top tools you should have on hand for ghost hunting.Of course there are the obvious - a 35mm camera and an audio recorder. But there's also some more advanced tools - such as the thermal imaging digital camera and the electromagnetic field recorder.
I guess my only question would be where to buy these things? I'm sure there are eBay auctions but is there actually a place aside from an army surplus store where you can find gear like this?
I received this DVD a little while ago called "Killer Snakes" and watched it when I got it but have been pondering how to write this review.
Not because the movie was bad, because it wasn't, but because I find it hard to put into words how I felt about the movie.
To be honest, it's kinda creepy.
The movie is about a a meek young man who lives near a haven for reptiles and, upon discovering a wounded snake one night, discovers that he has a unique psychic bond with them.
The movie kind of reminds me of the movie "Willard" where Crispin Glover seems to have a connection to rats.
Anyways, in Killer Snakes, the lead character develops a connection with snakes as I said above. As time goes on we also learn that he is somewhat troubled and that others take advantage of him.
As one would expect he uses his newfound ability to communicate with snakes (and later, other reptiles) to help him take some revenge on those who cross him.
