::New Editor's Note: This is one in a series of interviews that we plan to do every Friday with someone or something that is changing the face of the Horror Movie or Haunted Attraction Industry. This week's interview is with up and coming director Scott Glosserman. Ever since I saw Leslie walking around at SXSW in 2006 in full costume posting his own film flyers (carrying a burlap sack and a knife no less) I knew I needed to talk to the man behind this film. Of course I am talking about "Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon". This ain't your average slasher movie. Read on to find out why. So check this interview out and enjoy the film at your local theatre....

Hey Scott, why/how did you first become interested in Horror?

1981. TIME BANDITS. Scared the crap out of me. My aunt had no idea when she took me and my brother and my cousins. Haven’t seen it since. All I remember is a mountain in darkness, vaguely resembling Q-bert (also scary), and terrifying little people who were bigger than me, at the time. I’ve been hooked ever since.

What previous jobs have you had?

Oh, this is a JOB interview! Um, let’s see. I haven’t had too many jobs in the past. Mostly stints. I had a stint in a pizza shop, stint scooping ice cream, running a little car wash business when I was 10. (Can that still go on my resume)? Stinted coaching soccer, piano-teaching stint (I taught THE BEST piano lessons), camp counseled, waited tables at Houston’s and CPK and a summer stint at a Mexican restaurant, in D.C. – all that prepared me for CAA (Creative Artists Agency), a talent and literary agency where I assisted the head of the motion picture talent department for a couple of years (while conferring upon myself a business degree in Entertainment).

How long have you been a filmmaker?

I started experimenting with chemical alloys when I was very young. One day my brother and I were playing with our G.I.Joes and we wanted to simulate Nagasaki, so I set off an electrical explosion using D batteries and Epson Salt. It caused flash blindness in both of us (I’ve since recovered, but my brother is a restaurateur, so he obviously hasn’t). Nevertheless, when I regained my sight, I noticed that the explosion had rendered an image of our G.I.Joes on the cellophane that I was perforating, and at that point I realized I had a knack for making film. I called Kodak right away to get working for them, but by that point they’d mechanized the process, so I decided to go back to elementary school.

Uggghh. Am I the only one who thought Hostel was a) overrated and b) not scary at all? All it is was blood and guts and naked people. Those things do not equal a great horror film. Hell, I was one of the people who saw the world premiere of Cabin Fever at the Rolling Roadshow in Austin, TX and I thought that movie was not scary at all either. Am I the only one out there that thinks that Eli Roth is not the genius he thinks he is? But of course we lap it all up like its the scariest crap we ever saw....sigh..okay enough of my soap box. Enjoy the new movie poster and a link to some exclusive clips of Hostel II..

Hey I know we have been posting a lot of horror movie stuff lately but I guess it's just slow over at the Haunted Attractions/Dark Rides end of the business. Anyway check out the latest DVD we heard about "The Hunt".

On a chilly fall morning, Jack Hamberg, his eight-year-old stepson and cameraman Atticus Monroe head into the woods to make an instructional hunting video when their outing takes a disturbing turn. While trespassing on restricted land, they stumble upon the relics of a bizarre religious monument and soon realize they're being stalked by someone or something not of this earth!

The Hunt is an alarmingly frightening film (directed by Fritz Kiersch of Children of the Corn fame) . Seems like Blair Witch meets the Predator? Anyone seen this one and want to post a review? Here's a link to the streaming trailer. . If your looking to buy you can pick it up here

One of our Austin readers sent this in....Looks like the regional premiere of Grindhouse is happening in Austin, TX. Not a huge suprise since a lot of the films were shot in Austin and Robert Rodriguez is from south of Austin. Good luck getting a seat. Does anyone want to write us a review of these when they come out? If so email us or leave us a comment.

Speaking of the Hitcher. We have word that the special HD-DVD version is coming out on May 1st of this year. If you haven't seen "The Hitcher" it's a good little remake movie about a road trip takes a deadly turn in this terrifying thriller about a young couple (Sophia Bush and Zachary Knighton) tormented by a psychotic hitchhiker (Sean Bean) who forces them to face their fears head-on. The open road becomes a battleground of blood and metal in the race to reveal the chilling truth about this relentless killer. The HD DVD version is going to have the following special features:

Dead End – Wake up with Zach Knighton in his hotel room on the day of his character's big death scene.

· Road Kill: The Ultimate Car Crash – Comprehensive footage of the amazing, hard-hitting car stunts featured in the film.

· Fuel Your Fear: The Making of The Hitcher – This fascinating featurette goes behind closed doors with the filmmakers to find out how they created the tension and terror of The Hitcher.

· Chronicles Of A Killer – Follow the murderous rampage of an evil and cunning serial murderer with mock news stories that follow in John Ryder’s blood-drenched footsteps.

· Deleted Scenes

Cool stuff. But does anyone even own a HD DVD player yet? Leave us some comments if you do.

If so check this out. Looks like one of the Film studios there had a horror garage sale of sorts a while back. Sounds like a blast......I wonder if the car was for sale?

The recently released horror movie THE HITCHER, which was based out at Austin Studios for several months last year, is now looking to sell some of the office supplies, props, set dressing, wardrobe, furniture and flats used in that film. The production has turned the garage sale over to the Austin Film Society, who will host the sale out in Hangar 2 at Austin Studios (1901 E. 51st St.) tomorrow and Saturday.
The sale will be open from Friday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Directional signs will be up, and we ask that interested buyers do not come outside of the designated Garage Sale hours.

Here are the full details:
WHAT: THE HITCHER garage sale
WHO: Austin Film Society
WHEN: Friday, Feb. 2, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 3, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
WHERE: Hangar 2 of Austin Austin Studios (1901 E. 51st Street)
WHY: All proceeds benefit the programs and services of AFS

If your an old man like me you don't get Spring Break off but if you do or can afford it why not check out SXSW this week in Austin, TX? If you don't know what it is it's one of the biggest Film/ Interactive/ Music festivals in the country. Yours truly is all set up to attend for the next week or so. The best part is once you wade through all the indie emo films the big boys come out at night. Including almost 13 new horror movies premiering all week at midnight. Check them all out here. Mutant sheeps and Zombie's anyone?

Well then why not get off your butt and submit it? The Eerie Horror Festival is looking for your scripts, films, and horror video games. That's right video games. Now that is pretty damn original. I have never seen a horror show that was looking for horror video games to show off. A cool concept indeed. I mean most have a film festival now days (like your HauntCONs, etc) but video games? That's cool.....

Though you all might enjoy this. It's a pretty good spoof of the look and the feel of Discovery's "A Haunting". I don't think they won anything as it's not that funny but they sure have the look and feel down don't they?

Uh-oh for the first time in about 7-8 months Discovery's "A Haunting" was not on at 7:00pm tonight. Maybe I just got the wrong time. Wait what's a "A Haunting" you ask? Well it's only the best re-creation horror show on TV. I mean we all know about Showtime's "Masters of Horror" but face it people unless it's the week before Halloween it's hard to get your horror fix. Well Discovery's "A Haunting" delivers that every week with actual good acting and pretty good special f/x. The music however is what put it over the top. Sometimes the music alone is enough to make the hairs on my arm stand up. Anyway be sure you check this great show out when you can on the Discovery Channel. Here is a link to when it's on next . And if anyone knows them we would love to get an interview going with the series producers....
