HauntSpace?
Got an email yesterday about a new Web Site for Haunters going up. It's called HauntSPace. Looks like a MySpace clone but focused on people who own, run or act in Haunted Houses. Not sure what the benefit of this Web Site is since their are already about 200 Haunted Houses active on MySpace. And a lot of vendors have their pages on MySpace as well.....

Impressed, I see you're WAY on top of what's going on. I can answer that for you.
I have nothing against MySpace, I'm a member there too. However.
1. You have to sift through nearly a billion people to find the ones that are into the same things you are.
2. I'm sure everyone can agree that they are WAY out of control with the ads. It's only getting worse.
3. It is a pedophile heaven, and i HATE pedophiles. With a site that's smaller, we can keep a better eye on people. Sometimes getting too large can be a bad thing.
4. I like to give, and seeing people that have faith in me, and something I believe in makes me a happy guy, it's worth more than money.
5. MySpace was sold to Fox for 580 million dollars. I guess all the members got sold along with it. I don't know about you, but I never saw a dime LOL.
6. I wanted a site that HAUNTERS would visit, not a trumpet player, a lawn mower repair person or a corp exec that wants to network some hotties when the wife's away.
I could go on forever with this, but I'll say one more thing. Haunt Vendors? it would be nice to have them, and I can understand why they went to MySpace. I'm even on MySpace.
But, although I could plaster HauntSpace with ads tomorrow, I chose to sit back and let people enjoy a website without being constantly harassed by the "punch the monkey" Mr. T boxing the President, or seeing an ad that takes peoples computers 5 minutes to upload of a chick that I could never get and got airbrushed anyway.
HauntSpace is a solid, clean Haunter site, and we're going to let the Haunters call the shots on HauntSpace, not me, not any one specific person, but "members".
If we ever decide to advertise, it will be quality ads, target specific and at a bare minimum.
I'm more concentrated on having a gathering, and merchandise my Halloween goods, which is coming soon too.
Tonight, I just sat back and enjoyed watching people upload their favorite pics and felt proud of it. Everywhere you look, it's all about making money. HauntSpace is about snipping the wings a little and giving something back to people that deserve it.
I got a lot of emails recently, and felt REALLY proud, not just because of HauntSpace, but for trusting it's direction.
And I know the lingering question is this. If someone offered me 580 million dollars for HauntSpace would I take it and run. DUH, of course I would, but in this case, it would never happen because hard core Halloween Enthusiasts such as we are, are still a small group, so there really isn't going to be a jackpot at the end of the rainbow. BUT, I can do something, enjoy what I'm doing and give a little and that makes me feel pretty darn good. After all, I wouldn't go from running an Ambulance all day, to hopping in a Police car and working another X amount of hours if I didn't care about people, not to mention that I work 7 days a week.
HauntSpace will be devoted to the safety of it's members and will HAMMER someone if they corrupt the morals of a child. Smaller group, much easier to protect, that's the way I see it.
We'll also be giving some FREE STUFF away, including a little cash. Why? because I'm feelin a little giving lately.
I realized how much I hated tons of banners when I listened to a moron and put a bunch of them on HauntersNetwork. I like the ones that benefit a Haunt organization, and I like the ones that I chose because I like the person who stands beind the business, but all it did was slow down my site and speaking for myself, too many ads just make me want to walk.
Anyway, thanks for the rap session, HR has been fun to read lately.
OMG, I forgot to mention MAJOR SPAMMERS! I'm all about dropping a link somewhere, or talking about something you're proud of, but as far as MySpace is concerned, I get plagued by constant spammers, webcams and all that garbage and everyone knows what I'm talking about. That comes with having a HUGE website.
And the last person that spammed me on there with a webcam type profile, looked like MR. ED
Now how's that fun, when you're trying to market your halloween props, or maintain your halloween website.
HauntSpace.com will deal with garbage like that so my members can enjoy their sites.
In Pennsylvania, we have that nice little law about unlawful use of a communication device. Also, if the time comes where we have problems with the "suspicious types" we'll get rid of free email accounts and all that jazz. Like I mentioned, it's all about the Haunters, and they'll make decisions as far as our direction. If they want to kick some donations they can do so. I'd really like to do a donation thing for some organizations like Altzheimers Association, Diabetes Foundation, St. Judes Hospital , American Heart Association.........just to list a couple of the ones I like. I spend TONS of time with people that are not so fortunate and since I'm taking about it, get on one of their websites and kick them some money, I'll be sending them some kick@SS funds in the future.
We'll, I'm all talked out.
Haha.Great response. Well we try and keep on top of things around here. We could sure use some help! You interested in Blogging for us maybe once a week?
